Profitability of ethanol production off the charts

The combination of high ethanol prices and declining corn prices sent ethanol plant profits "off the charts" in late winter and early spring, University of Illinois agricultural economist Scott Irwin said last week.

The record profits followed one of the best years ever for ethanol producers in terms of profitability in 2013, Irwin noted.
