July 11 | Northwest Research and Demonstration Farm Field Day

Farmers and the public are invited to attend a farm field day on Wednesday, July 11, at the Northwest Iowa Research and Demonstration Farm near Sutherland. Check-in and registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the program starting at 9:30 a.m. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach specialists will present timely research and crop production information throughout the morning. Topics and speakers will include: On the Edge - Bioreactor and Saturated Buffer Models presented by Iowa Learning Farms staff, Iowa Water Quality and Research at the Northwest Iowa Research Farm presented by Matt Helmers, professor and extension agricultural engineer at Iowa State, Surrogate Nitrate Measurement Methods presented by Girma Birru, associate in agronomy at Iowa State, Iowa Windbreak Management presented by Jesse Randall, associate professor and extension forestry specialist at Iowa State, Agronomic Issues from the 2018 Growing Season by Joel DeJong and Paul Kassel, field agronomists with ISU Extension and Outreach.

July 10 | Crawfordsville Workshop July 10 to Focus on Nitrogen

The event will allow ISU Extension and Outreach specialists to share research-based information on maximizing profitability with nitrogen management while also increasing the understanding of the practices that minimize and reduce nitrate-nitrogen loss. Supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. for those who have registered for the event, with the program beginning at 6 p.m. The event is free but pre-registration is required in order to get a head-count for the meal. July 12 | Strip Till Demo Day

The day will include: strip till demonstrations by various local equipment companies, cover crop presentations and inter-seeding demonstrations, and a panel discussion with local farmers. Register for the event here

At this event, you will learn about the ongoing ISU field demonstrations and collaborations statewide. The population of monarchs in the eastern U.S. has declined 80% during the past 20 years and Iowa is in the heart of the Midwestern summer breeding range. July 14 | New Beginnings: Organic Transition at a Diversified Dairy Farm 

Visitors will tour the dairying facility, walk through grazing paddocks and see the infrastructure the Wedemeiers have built over the last two decades to support their growing herd.
