Wetland Field Day

Wednesday, September 29th (10:30 am – 12:30 pm)

Coggon, Iowa

Iowa Learning Farms and Upper Wapsipinicon River Watershed Management Authority will host a wetland field day on Wednesday, September 29th from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at a wetland owned by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) near Coggon. The event is free, open to the whole family, and includes a complimentary meal.

Wetlands are an important ecosystem that helps clean and filter water, store water during heavy rain events and provide critical wildlife habitat. The site featured during this field day was recently constructed in partnership with the Iowa DNR within the Upper Wapsipinicon watershed. A goal for the Upper Wapsipinicon Watershed Management Authority is to implement 28 projects, like this wetland, on both private and public properties to help to mitigate flooding in the watershed, while also improving water quality.

The field day will be held northeast of Coggon and located 1/2 mile south of 325th Street on 120th Avenue. From Coggon, head west on D62/Coggon Rd for 1.6 miles. Turn north on Quality Ridge Road for 1 mile. Continue north on 120th Avenue for 1 mile. The wetland will be on the west side of the road and marked with field day signs.

The workshop is free and open to the whole family, but reservations are suggested to ensure adequate space and food. For reasonable accommodations and to RSVP please contact Liz Ripley at 515-294-5429 or ilf@iastate.edu.
