National Farmers’ Market Week runs Aug. 4-10. The Agriculture Department started this celebration in 1999 to highlight the important role farmers’ markets play in the nation’s food system. About 8% of U.S. farms market foods locally, through direct-to-consumer or intermediated sales (farmers’ markets, farm stands, Community Supported Agriculture, food hubs, etc.).
