The latest cattle on feed report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released last week showed U.S. cattle placements and marketings at its lowest point since the report began in 1996.

However, the report showed higher placements and more marketings from Iowa feedlots.

Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 9.8 million head on Sept. 1. The inventory was 1 percent below Sept. 1, 2013, the USDA said in its report last week.
