Moisture variable across Iowa, driest in western counties

This past February was warmer than normal for Iowa, and that overall trend continued into early March with temperatures averaging above normal in most of the state.
A trend for colder weather compared to normal started the second week of March, and by late in the month, average March temperatures were below normal in most areas.
March melted precipitation amounts were near to below normal in much of the state, with smaller areas of above normal amounts.
