Milk program deserves a second look
Farmers who have used the Margin Protection Program (MPP) as insurance against dwindling milk prices in the past should look at the updated program with a “fresh set of eyes and an open mind,” a dairy economist said last week.
MPP protects dairy farmers by paying them when the difference between the national all-milk price and the national average feed cost (margin) drops below a certain dollar amount selected by the dairy farmer.
