Melvin couple hatches on-your-honor egg enterprise

MELVIN, Iowa | On the way to the Iowa Great Lakes, more than a few Siouxland residents pass a cute red shed on Osceola County Road A34.
A sign directs motorists to the sale of eggs produced by free-range chickens. Transactions transpire inside the shed, on the honor system.
"People like the convenience of being able to come and go and not wait to have me be there," says Lori Schiernbeck, who lives on the acreage with her husband, Troy Schiernbeck.
The business, Schiernbeck Farm Fresh Finds, was hatched four years ago as the couple began selling eggs at the foot of their driveway, located a couple of miles northeast of the Osceola County town of Melvin.
