Iowa’s moth trapping season has begun, and while there’s little evidence of true armyworm or black cutworm activity in Iowa to date, volunteers have set their traps and are checking them weekly.

Meaghan Anderson, Iowa State University (ISU) Extension field agronomist for central Iowa, said trapping began the last few days in March and will continue through May. There was one black cutworm moth caught in Taylor County during the last week of March, and two black cutworm moths were trapped in eastern Iowa for the week ending April 9.
