“We’ve had only a few pop-up storms and the lack of rain is starting to show on the lighter ground,” Peelen said Aug. 20. “But the cooler temperatures have helped.” Corn is heading to the dent stage and area dairies and feedlots expect to start chopping silage soon, he said. Pod set has been good on soybeans, but the crop needs more rain to fill the pods, Peelen said.
