“Our hillsides are gone. The gravelly spots and river bottoms are just burned up,” Glienke said July 21. The last rain in his area occurred the first week of July, with just more than 1 inch. Since then, high temps and low humidity have caused damage across his operation. “The cattle like it (low humidity), but it’s terrible for the corn,” Glienke said.
