Northwest Iowa
Hammen’s farm received about 3.5 inches of rain in the last couple weeks, causing ponding in the fields and bringing planting to a standstill. “We won’t be back in the fields for several days, and it will be even longer if we get more rain,” he said on May 3. Before rain set in, Hammen planted about 60% of his corn acres. Early planted corn has started to emerge.
