“It’s hard to find a good day for fieldwork,” Boettcher said April 21. Scouting during a rare sunny day last week, she said frost was still present in the ground. Despite receiving about one-third inch of rain, Boettcher said the cold, mostly dry start to the year is having an effect. “Some guys around here are having a hard time with their winter wheat,” she said.
