Iowa State University is providing online sessions and field days in July and August covering grazing topics.
Join for 5 virtual sessions to learn as well as field days. All sessions will be recorded and viewable later. You can attend all sessions or select the ones that are of most interest to you!
Sessions
- Session 1- July 13: Introduction: Concepts and Principles
- Topics: Plant growth and regrowth, forage species comparison, and building a forage mixture
- Session 2 - July 15: Animal Needs and Health
- Topics: Animal requirement, health concerns, nitrates, prussic acid, bloat & weed toxicities
- Session 3 - July 16: Grazing Strategies
- Topics: Rotational stocking, paddock design & measurement, and fescue management
- Session 4 - July 20: Infrastructure, Alternatives, and Budgets
- Topics: Paddock layouts and water systems, alternative forages, and enterprise budgets
- Session 5 - July 22: Productivity, Weeds, and Technology
- Topics: Improving pasture productivity, weed control, and grazing management software
To complement these online sessions, there will be three in-person field days offered. Additional details for these field days will be coming soon.
- East-Central Iowa (Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids, IA): July 23 | 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM
- Southeast Iowa (K7 Hereford, Lockridge, IA): July 28 | 3:00 to 8:00 PM
- Central Iowa (2XL Cattle Company, Boone, IA): August 4 | 2:30 to 7:30 PM
