What do toothpaste, batteries, shoes and aspirin have in common? They are all items farmers help produce.

The Farm Bureau Young Farmers Advisory Committee has special kid-focused activities planned for the first Saturday of the Iowa State Fair to help children and their parents understand the importance of agriculture.

From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, children and their families will have fun wearing decoder glasses to discover unexpected products made possible through agriculture. Children can also toss rings over calf bottles and identify toy farm equipment to win special prizes.

While in the park, children and their parents will also meet young farmers from across Iowa who raise the nutritious, wholesome, safe food they eat and is used in many other items they enjoy every day. Those who spend time at each learning station will receive an "I Met a Farmer Today!" backpack.
