The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) and other farm and food organizations last week decried U.S. Senate’s failure to pass legislation that would have blocked mandatory labeling of foods made with ingredients from biotech crops and would have halted state-by-state labeling measures.

However, the pro-biotech groups vowed to keep pushing lawmakers to address the labeling issue before a Vermont labeling law kicks in on July 1.

"To say we are angry with those senators who abandoned farmers and ranchers and turned their backs on rural America on this vote is an understatement," said AFBF President Zippy Duvall after the measure failed to get the 60 votes required....
