For the first time since the farm crisis of the 1980s, Iowa’s Grain Depositors and Sellers Indemnity Fund will begin collecting an assessment of one-quarter cent per bushel on crop sales starting Sept. 1. 

Iowa law requires the Grain Indemnity Fund Board to reinstate participation fees for grain dealers and warehouses if the fund falls below $3 million.
