China will initiate a guidance system to encourage its hog producers to make changes to their sow populations in an attempt to maintain a sustainable output of pork, according to a Bloomberg News report.

The Chinese government aims to keep nationwide breeding sows at around 43 million, which could translate to pork production of 55 million tons, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said.
