On a Sunday afternoon earlier this month, my wife and I took a very pleasant canoe trip on the North Raccoon River in Guthrie and Dallas counties.

We’ve enjoyed canoeing on the picturesque rivers in northeast Iowa over the years. But this time, we decided to save the driving time from Des Moines and try the Raccoon. We packed a picnic, rented a canoe and shoved off.
