Although the dairy industry is seeing success in growing partnerships to increase the demand for milk and other dairy products, the industry is also seeing its share of challenges, said Randy Mooney, chairman of the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF), at the joint meeting of the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board (NDB) and the United Dairy Industry Association (UDIA) last month.
Mooney criticized the dairy provisions in the pending House version of the farm bill. They include a new subsidy for dairy farmers that’s modeled on crop insurance, but don’t have a provision in place to limit spending when the economy slows.
