Demolition of the 80th Street bridge over U.S. 30 in Cedar Rapids requires overnight U.S. 30 road closures Sunday nights until Saturday mornings between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. beginning Tuesday, Nov. 1, until Thursday, Nov. 24, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Cedar Rapids construction office.

Traffic impacts:

  • Westbound U.S. 30: Traffic will be detoured around the closure by exiting at 80th Street (exit 248), north to 16th Avenue, and then west on 16th Avenue to westbound U.S. 30.
  •  Eastbound U.S. 30: Traffic will be detoured around the closure by exiting at 16th Avenue (exit 246), then east on 16th Avenue to Edgewood Road, and south on Edgewood Road to eastbound U.S. 30.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
