Manure Applicator Certification

Overview

All applicators (regardless of operation size) must follow state laws when land applying manure. These laws are designed to keep manure out of environmentally sensitive areas. The following are options for producers that wish to land apply manure from their livestock facilities:

Operation Type: Confinement w/ capacity > 500 animal units
Manure Application Options: Obtain state certification to apply yourself, Hire a commercial manure applicator

Operation Type: Confinement w/ capacity = 500 animal units
Manure Application Options: May apply without state certification

Operation Type: Open Feedlot
Manure Application Options: May apply without state certification
