The Iowa 149 bridge over Cedar Creek north of Ottumwa will not open the second week of December as previously planned due to recent significant weather events, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Chariton construction office.

Iowa DOT staff hope to reopen the Iowa 149 roadway and bridge to traffic the third week of December, weather permitting.

United Contractors, Inc., the contractor for the project, originally expected to complete the bridge project by November 2018.  However, the need to reschedule the deck pour and significant weather events have delayed the opening of the Iowa 149 bridge.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
