Harrisvaccines continues battle against PEDV

Harrisvaccines became the first company to develop a vaccine for the porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) last year, but the company says it is working to make its vaccines available worldwide. Hank Harris, the company’s president and CEO, said the Ames-based company had a head start in developing a vaccine for PEDV because of its association with AlphaVax Inc.
AlphaVax had developed an efficacious vaccine against SARS in 2004. Since SARS and PEDV are both coronaviruses, the company had a basis to start developing a vaccine for PEDV.
