In a country of abundance, and in a state with such incredible ag productivity, it’s difficult to imagine that anyone in America or in Iowa goes hungry.

Yet nearly one in eight Iowans, or nearly 400,000 people, struggle with food insecurity, according to Feeding America. Even more startling, more than one in five Iowa children live in food insecure households, where they often face empty cupboards and don’t have enough to eat.
