Farmers find calving fits well in the busy fall schedule

Harvest is in full swing on Aaron and Chrissy Schnepel’s farm in Carson. And so is calving season.
The East Pottawattamie Farm Bureau members have been spending extra time in their fields harvesting crops and additional time in nearby pastures tending to newborn calves.
The family switched to almost exclusively fall calving on the farm about 10 years ago.
"When I started, I had some spring calvers that didn’t breed, so I turned the bull back in and gave them a second chance," Aaron said.
