Allamakee County Farm Bureau member Bobbi Jo Berg first launched Recipes from French Creek as a simple recipe blog.

After long days at work, Bobbi Jo Berg would spend hours building her website and promoting her recipes on social media. It started as a hobby, though she quietly hoped that one day it might attract enough traffic to generate income.

In the meantime, Berg began receiving requests from locals in the Decorah/Waukon area, asking if she could make the dishes she was posting online. That interest sparked a new idea.

“I started researching what it would take to do that — and started doing it,” Berg says. “Freezer meals and meal prepping businesses have become more popular, and I had seen quite a few, so it gave me the inspiration to try my own, at a smaller scale.”

The idea took off quickly. Berg was able to leave her full-time banking job to pursue Recipes from French Creek full time, while also spending more time at home...
