Unlike the soybean market after harvest, the corn market offers a carrying charge from harvest into 2017. Illustrated this week is a snapshot of the cash corn market structure by showing the relationship between the different delivery time periods. With the low-priced markets, the temptation will be to store corn and delay the marketing decision. Even though the market is offering higher prices later, this should be compared to the costs of ownership of bushels in the bin. If you plan to store unpriced bushels after harvest, what is your plan to price and/or move those bushels to market?
