As parents and grandparents, we all want our kids to adopt healthier habits — to eat right, exercise more and make better-for-you choices.

The new “5-2-1-0” program, launched last year by the United Way of Central Iowa, aims to give parents and caregivers easy, achievable ideas to encourage kids to develop healthy habits that last a lifetime.

The 5-2-1-0 campaign promotes a simple message for families to follow: Eat 5 or more fruits and vegetables each day, spend 2 hours or fewer a day in front of screens, play at least 1 hour a day, and consume zero sugary beverages or juices and chose water or milk instead.
