Using the annual projection for the costs of production in corn and soybean crops, we will draw a financial picture from historical market conditions in Iowa and choices that are available to Iowa producers.
Dr. Alejandro Plastina – Economist, Iowa State University
Dr. Plastina is an Associate Professor/Extension Economist in the Department of Economics at Iowa State University. His area of specialization is agricultural production and technology, with an emphasis on farm business and financial management. His current research focus is on the economics of conservation practices and agricultural productivity. He has received the 2020 Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Creativity in Service to All Iowans Award; the 2019 Agricultural & Applied Economics Association's Distinguished Extension Program Award; the 2018 Iowa State University ANR Programming Innovation Award; and the 2015 Impacting Iowa team award from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. He serves as Co-Director of the joint Iowa State University-Iowa Bankers Association Ag Credit School since 2017 and was elected Chair of the North Central Farm Management Extension Committee for 2019/20.Prior to joining Iowa State University in 2014, Dr. Plastina was Senior Economist at the International Cotton Advisory Committee in Washington, DC. He graduated with a BA in Economics from the University of La Plata (Argentina) in 2000, and an MS in Statistics and a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2005 and 2007, respectively.
