The Junior Master Gardener (JMG) Program is planting seeds of knowledge, responsibility, and environmental stewardship in young minds. Designed to engage young people through hands-on activities, the program combines the joys of gardening with science, math, and life skills education. Created by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, JMG offers a dynamic, research-based curriculum that s both fun and educational.

Space is limited to 12 youth grades 2nd-3rd that are interested in learning more about growing produce and maintaining a thriving garden. This hands-on course will be a six-week series that will be hosted Friday mornings June 6 - July 18 (will NOT meet July 4) from 9-10 a.m. at the Warren County Master Gardeners Community Garden, located just east of the Indianola Parks and Recreation Building. Cost is $50 per youth, which off-sets direct expenses and supports the 4-H Youth Development County Extension Program.

Participants in the program don’t just learn how to plant seeds, they dig into the "why" and "how" of plant life, soil health, water conservation, and more. Through projects like growing vegetable gardens, youth get real-world experience that connects them to nature and healthy living.

Beyond gardening, the program fosters leadership and community service, encouraging youth to share their knowledge through local service projects like planting gardens at schools or assisting in community beautification efforts.

In the JMG garden, every young gardener grows and not just the plants.
