Iowa Valley scholarship recipients

Iowa Farm Bureau will award county scholarships to four applicants who met the criteria set by the scholarship committee this year. Two of the four deserving recipients are graduating from Iowa Valley High School. They are Owen Bral and Avary Helmrichs.
Owen Bral is the son of Toby & Kristen Bral of Marengo. Owen will be attending Kirkwood Community College majoring in Business. At Iowa Valley Owen has been involved in National Honor Society, football, wrestling, golf, track and field, baseball, The Ripple Project (Mental Health Awareness group), and youth group. He has been on the Iowa Vally Honor Roll and has received the First Team Academic All District Award. Owen volunteers at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, put up flags at local cemeteries, set up and help clean up fireworks for the Marengo’s third of July celebration, and works at the concession stands at sporting events.
Avary Helmrichs is the daughter of Chad and Amber Helmrichs of Marengo. Avary plans to study Agriculture Education at South Dakota State University. Avary has been involved and received numerous awards in FFA and 4-H and has served as FFA Sentinel, Assistant Reporter, 4-H Hilton Willing Workers Secretary and Historian, on Iowa County 4-H Youth Council, and Agriculture Advocacy group leader. She has also been involved in volleyball, basketball, FBLA, and Big Tigers Little Tigers. Along with FFA and 4-H, Avary has been involved with several community projects through Iowa County Fair, L.O.V.E. Network of Iowa County, and volleyball and basketball mini-camps.
