Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Warren County is serving as a free tax form intake site for services through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. this tax season. Eligible taxpayers with household income of $67,000 or less are eligible for basic return preparation services.

To ensure eligibility, taxpayers’ returns will be reviewed at the beginning of their appointment to ensure they fall within the guidelines set by the IRS and the VITA program. How Vita Intake works: taxpayer completes and submits intake documents during the appointment. Tax information and documents are scanned and sent to a virtual volunteer tax preparer who prepares the tax return within two weeks. Taxpayers are contacted by the virtual preparer when the tax return is complete and ready to review. Taxpayers come back to the Extension office to sign the return and get a paper copy. We electronically file the state and federal tax returns for free.

The appointments offered in Indianola at the Warren County Extension Office are Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Thursdays, 1-4 p.m. through April 10. To make a tax intake appointment, please call our office at 515-961-6237.
