November is National Turkey Month, and there’s no better place to celebrate than right here in Iowa, where agriculture and poultry go hand in hand. Iowa farmers raise millions of turkeys each year, contributing to both our state’s economy and the dinner tables of families across the country. From caring for birds in climate-controlled barns to ensuring they have safe, nutritious feed, turkey farmers work year-round to produce healthy, high-quality protein. Their work supports local jobs, strengthens rural communities, and showcases the skill and dedication behind every holiday meal.
Turkey Month is also a reminder of how deeply connected agriculture is to our daily lives. Whether it’s the feed ingredients grown by row-crop farmers, the veterinarians and nutritionists who support flock health, or the processors who prepare food for grocery stores, an entire agricultural chain comes together to make Thanksgiving traditions possible. As we move through November, it’s the perfect time to recognize and appreciate the hardworking Iowans who raise the turkeys, grow the crops, and keep our food system strong.
