Why you may see fewer food trucks in downtown Des Moines this year

There could be fewer food trucks on Des Moines streets this year as more vendors head to the suburbs over concerns about the high price of operating downtown and limits on where trucks are allowed.
The city has issued just three mobile vendor permits this year. There were 15 permits issued last year and 21 permits in 2016.
Food truck owners pay $1,750 in permitting and parking fees to Des Moines each year to operate in a handful of downtown spots.
Some vendors say the investment isn't worth the reward. Instead, they are skipping downtown for free parking at suburban business parks.
