Week of July 31 fuel and energy price update

DES MOINES – The price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa increased $0.04 and retail diesel prices in Iowa was up $0.05 this past week.
Crude Oil Summary
The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $0.52 per barrel over last week, and is currently priced at $48.79.
Brent crude oil was up $1.00 and is currently priced at $51.47.
One year ago WTI crude sold for $40.06 and Brent crude was at $42.49.
Motor Fuels
As of Tuesday, Aug. 1st, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.24 across Iowa according to AAA. This is up $.04 cents from last week and $.13 higher than one year ago. The national average on Tuesday was $2.32, up a $.04 from last week’s price.
Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa were up $.05 with a statewide average of $2.44. One year ago diesel prices averaged $2.31 in Iowa. The current Iowa diesel average is $.04 lower than the national average of $2.48.
Wholesale ethanol prices were up $.03 from last week’s price, currently at $1.55.
The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $1.62 for U87-E10, $1.82 for Unleaded 87 (clear), ULSD#2 is at $1.75, ULSD#1 is at $1.92, and E-70 is priced at $1.68 per gallon.
Heating Fuels
Propane prices held steady at last month’s prices for a statewide average of $1.11 per gallon. Home heating oil rose $.06 from last month’s figures, ending with a statewide average of $1.93. Natural Gas prices are down $.12 at the Henry Hub reporting site and ended the week at $2.84/ MMbtu.
Continuing throughout the summer months, we will only report retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa once a month.
