U.S. 71 in Buena Vista County to close May 7 for three months

Road construction work on U.S. 71, from Iowa 3 to Iowa 10 in Buena Vista Countywill require closing the roadway to traffic beginning at 7:30 a.m. Monday, May 7, until Friday, Aug. 3, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Cherokee construction office.
Motorists will be directed around the work zone on a signed detour using Iowa 3 and Buena Vista County roads M-44 and C-13.
OMG Midwest is the contractor for the nearly $5.5 million hot-mix asphalt resurfacing project.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
