Work on the interchange project at Iowa 58/Viking Road in Cedar Falls continues. The next stage of the two-year project requires a traffic switch on Viking Road beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday night, July 19, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

Current Viking Road traffic is head-to-head in the westbound lanes. The eastbound lanes have been reconstructed, so traffic will now be shifted to these lanes in a head-to-head pattern allowing for reconstruction of the westbound lanes. Access to both Nordic Drive and Andrea Drive to the south will reopen at the same time.

This traffic pattern is expected to be in effect until mid-October.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
