The on-ramp from Sixth Street Southwest to westbound U.S. 30 and the off-ramp from westbound U.S. 30 to Sixth Street will be closed over the weekend starting at 8 p.m. Friday, April 27, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Cedar Rapids construction office. The construction work will allow crews to strengthen the shoulders and prepare for a deck overlay on the westbound U.S. 30 bridge. The ramps should be open by 6 a.m. Monday morning, April 30.
Traffic Impacts:
- Traffic on Sixth Street will be detoured to 33rd Avenue, southbound I-380, and then westbound U.S. 30.
- Traffic on westbound U.S. 30 will be detoured to Edgewood Road, eastbound U.S. 30, and then to Sixth Street.
- Westbound U.S. 30 will be reduced to one lane between west of Interstate 380 to east of Edgewood Road.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
