A resurfacing project that will include hot-mix asphalt paving and milling work on U.S. 6/Hickman Road from Interstate 35/80 to Iowa 28/Merle Hay Road will require nighttime lane closures; however, one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. These lane closures will occur when work is taking place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings beginning Sunday, April 30, until late September 2017, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office.

  • Work on the resurfacing project will occur in the cities of Clive, Urbandale, Windsor Heights, and Des Moines.
  • There will be one weekend of intake replacement work in Urbandale.
  • Motorists may experience travel delays and should allow additional time to reach their destination.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
