Culvert replacement on Iowa 5, about 3 miles north of Albia (between 165th Street and 160th Street), will require closing the roadway to traffic beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, for approximately two days, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Fairfield office.

During maintenance repairs, motorists will be directed around the work zone using one of the following signed detour routes (see map).

  • Motorists wishing to travel south to Albia from Knoxville will be detoured onto southbound Iowa 14 to eastbound U.S. 34 to Albia.
  • Motorists wishing to travel to Knoxville from Albia will be detoured onto westbound U.S. 34 onto northbound Iowa 14 to Knoxville.
  • Local traffic traveling along Iowa 5 will have access except for the lanes between 165th Street and 160th Street near mile marker 39.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
