Road construction work on Iowa 149 between 170th Street and 180th Street north of Ottumwa over Cedar Creek will require closing the bridge and roadway to traffic beginning at 7 a.m. Friday, June 22, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Chariton construction office.

The bridge closure and detour are expected to be in place for five months. During this project, motorists will be directed around the work zone using one of the following signed detour routes (see map).

  • Motorists traveling north on Iowa 149, who are driving toward junction Iowa 23, will need to go east on U.S. 34, and then north on Wapello County Road V-37, before turning west onto Iowa 149.
  • Motorists traveling south on Iowa 149, who wish to drive to Ottumwa, will turn east onto Iowa149, at the south junction of Iowa 23, to travel south on Wapello County Road V-37 to U.S. 34, and then drive west on U.S. 34 to Iowa 149.
  • Local traffic along Iowa 149 will have access to Iowa 149 except for the closure on Iowa 149 between 170th Street and 180th Street.
