Repairs to the Union Pacific Railroad crossing at Iowa 1 in Mount Vernon will require closing the roadway to traffic from 8 a.m. Monday, July 16, until 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 6 office.
During this closure, a marked detour will be in place using U.S. 30 and U.S. 151/Iowa 13. The detour will add approximately 14 miles to the normal travel distance.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
