IDA GROVE, Iowa -- Practical Farmers of Iowa and Iowa Organic Association are partnering with Ida Grove area farmers Jack, Linda and Scott Ausborn to host an organic transition field day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 11, at 5388 210th St.
The field day will explore the basics of planning and making a transition to organic crop farming -- from what fields to convert, to crop rotations and weed control, to budgets and record keeping.
The Ausborns farm 600 acres north of Ida Grove, raising corn, soybeans, hay, pasture, sheep and cattle. Currently, 60 acres of the farm are in organic transition. They will share their experience with planning their organic transition process, along with tips to help other farmers succeed.
