Car headlights required during bad weather under Iowa Senate bill

Iowa motorists would be required to use headlights during daytime hours when driving in inclement conditions that include fog, snow, sleet or rain under a bill approved Monday by the Iowa Senate.
Senate File 2067, managed by Sen. Tim Kraayenbrink, R-Fort Dodge, was discussed after several recent pile-ups of dozens of vehicles on Iowa's interstate highways during snowstorms that occurred during daylight hours.
Law enforcement officers have cited multiple reasons for the crashes, particularly motorists who were driving too fast for existing conditions, but limited visibility was a contributing factor in some instances.
With more inclement weather in the forecast, Kraayenbrink remarked Monday on the Senate floor, "This is very timely."
