(DES MOINES) –Gov. Terry E. Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds today are applauding the efforts of the Iowa federal delegation for securing language in the Water Resources Development Act that would prioritize the Cedar Rapids flood risk management project.  The language received unanimous, bipartisan approval in the U.S. House and was previously approved in the U.S. Senate.

“I want to thank Congressman Blum and the entire delegation for their efforts to gain unanimous, bipartisan approval in the U.S. House to prioritize the completion of the Cedar Rapids flood risk management project in the Water Resources Development Act,” said Branstad.  “There is now clear language to prioritize this important project from both chambers of the U.S. Congress.  Senator Grassley and Senator Ernst should also be applauded for their efforts.”

Reynolds added, “I want to thank Senator Grassley, Senator Ernst, Cong. Blum and the entire delegation for their work to elevate the importance of the Cedar Rapids flood mitigation project.  The overwhelming support from both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House sends a clear signal of support to the City of Cedar Rapids during these difficult times.”

The Cedar Rapids project was approved by Congress in 2014, however, despite Congressional approval the Obama Administration has not yet included the project in its budget.
