BOONE, Iowa — The chalkboard sign at Boone Valley Brewing Company sports the names of all the different types of beer served here, from Roxie Irish Red to Semi-Crazy Blonde to BVB Root Beer. The variety says something about the craft brewing industry in Iowa.

“There are about 65 breweries in the state of Iowa,” says J. Wilson, who holds the post of Minister of Beer (executive director) for the Iowa Brewers Guild.

That number has exploded in recent years, echoing the growth in the wine industry in the state just a couple of years earlier and reflecting nationwide growth. And most of those breweries are turning out a wide variety of beers.

The possibilities are endless, according to Jon Crook, co-owner of Boone Valley Brewing.
