Bachelor adds sizzle to FB cookout contest

Iowa Farm Bureau members last week smoked and grilled their way to the championship round of the Iowa Farm Bureau’s 51st cookout contest held on Iowa Farm Bureau Day at the Iowa State Fair.

Fifty-one meat masters from around the state shared their specialties with judges hungry to crown the new champion. Chris Soules, an Iowa farmer and contestant on last season’s "The Bachelorette" served as a guest judge for the competition along with Ed Wilson of WHO-TV.

In the end, it was Phil Cum­mings of Center Point who took home the top prize of $200, a crown and a permanent trophy as the 2014 Iowa Farm Bureau Cookout Contest Champion for his Mediterranean lamb pops.
