The Teacher's Academy for Agricultural Awareness provides an excellent opportunity for teachers, as well as Farm Bureau leaders who are involved in Ag in the Classroom programs, to learn more about agriculture and how to integrate it into the curriculum.
The Teacher's Academy of Agricultural Awareness is held regionally, in order to provide local resources, tours and contacts for the teachers.

AG IN THE CLASSROOM TEACHER SUPPLEMENT FUNDS DEPLEATED FOR 2009 |

What are the guidelines?
New guidelines for the 2008-09 Teachers Supplement Program. Please read carefully.
- Contact your county Farm Bureau Office to determine if your county is participating in the 2008-09 Teachers Supplement program. Click Here
for county Farm Bureau contact information. A link to the electronic application, pending county participation in the program, will be available from the county Farm Bureau office
after December 15, as counties determine their participation.
- Kindergarten - 12th grade Iowa teachers in participating county's public and private schools may apply for up to $200 for use in classroom programs that increase agriculture knowledge.
- Only current year eletronic applications forms from teachers in participating counties will be accepted. Once the electronic application is completed, applicants will need to print the
application and obtain the necessary signatures. Once signed and dated, applications must be received by the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation by February 13, 2009. Complete application instructions will be located on the application.
- A teacher may not apply for more than one grant per year.
- Recipients will be notified within two months of application deadline.
- An itemized expenditure report and receipts must be submitted by Oct. 2, 2009, to the Iowa Farm Bureau, before funds will be dispersed. Checks will be mailed to and are payable to the school. Items become school property.
- A wrap-up report must be submitted upon completion of the project. Reports from previous years must be submitted before future grant applications will be considered.
- Money cannot be used toward before/after school programs; preschool/Kindergarten preparation classes; projects taking place prior to March 1, 2009; fund raising efforts; political issues or
campaigns; teacher salaries/substitutes or professional staff development; basic school supplies; and food and kitchen appliances/utensils. Prohibited items are not limited to those listed.
- Applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges. Grant submission does not guarantee funding. Partial funds may be awarded.
Sample ag education activities that received grant money
- Pre-trip packet and field trip expenses to Dairy Center in Calmar, Iowa.
- Incubator & turner, tractors & machinery, books.
- Plants, seeds, fertilizer.
- Geoboards to add Ag into math curriculum.
- Soil sampler, soil N-P-K test kit; soil sieve; soil collection cans, soil thermometer.
- Farm books.
- Materials for students to grow their own fruits, veg., & flowering plants.
- Plants/seeds/pumpkin/soil.
- 10 copies of “A Sand County Almanac” by Aldo Leopold.
- Computer software/Ag Business Analysis.
- Clean water kit.

- Books, videos, puzzles, toy barn, farm animals, etc.
- Science quiz game show, Nutrition Lotto, food pyramid activity chart, Learn About Food Groups Book set.
- Growing in the Garden books.
- Various toy farm equipment, which reflects equipment currently used on IA farms for food production.
- Agriscience & Technology videos, Biotechnology curriculum.
- Model farms/landscape & animal base materials.
- Ag posters.
- “Let's Grow Pizza” Ag Day.
- Test tubes/Test tube rack/soil test kits.
- Corn & soy products for students to sample.
- Food processing and how they relate to agriculture.
