Can I burn or bury anything the water deposited on my land?
No, hazardous materials must be disposed of properly. Contact your local DNR field office for restricted items. For a map of local field offices click here

What are examples of some hazardous materials?
You have to remove all chemicals, asphalt shingles, tires and asbestos before a damaged building can be burnt. Damage containers of pesticide should be sent back to the manufacturer or ground applied at the recommended rate. Appliances must have hazardous parts removed, for a list of businesses that perform this click here. For disposal of household waste click here.

What waste can I burn or bury?
Trees, brush and farm buildings can be burned or buried. You can also bury small numbers of dead farm animals and ashes. Burning and burying must be performed on the farm where the debris is located. Be sure to check for more restrictive local ordinances.

Do I need a construction permit to repair/replace my livestock building?
No, a construction permit is not required to repair the building, but if you need to repair a manure storage structure, certain requirements must be satisfied. For example, manure storage structures must have the structural integrity to withstand expected internal and external load pressures.

As flood waters recede, I have discovered potentially hazardous containers (e.g. drums or tanks) how can I report them?
Call (515) 334-2868.
